Although West Ham were demolished by Man City at the weekend, Manuel Pellegrini’s side actually put in a fairly solid performance and have been one of the few teams to try and attack Pep’s side.
One of the star players for West Ham at the weekend was youth academy product Declan Rice. The midfielder has played a huge role in the first-team this season and has been key in Pellegrini’s three-man midfield.
Although the midfielder has become one of the more integral players in the squad, the situation surrounding his contract is still to be resolved.
Rice’s contract runs out next summer and has so far rejected any new offer from the club. The 19-year-old currently earns £3,000-a-week at the club and is looking to push his wage closer towards £30,000.
The Guardian is reporting that West Ham will wait until the end of the season before resuming talks with Rice over a new deal.
The Breakdown
While there have been improvements in the side over the last few months, West Ham cannot lose their star midfielder. Rice has attracted interest from Man U recently and the longer this contract saga continues, the more likely it will be that he will leave the club.
Rice has played 10 games this season and as such, West Ham must tie him down to a new long-term deal. The club can’t wait till next summer to complete the deal as by then, it might be too late.
Rice could be a future star and if West Ham fail to sign him, it would be a huge mistake from Gold and Sullivan.
