Pablo Hernandez retired from the pitch with an injury towards the end of Leeds United’s recent 2-1 win over Rotherham United, casting doubt on his availability for the Whites’ upcoming clash with Norwich City, as reported by Leeds Live.
Assuming that the 33-year-old is unavailable for selection against the Canaries, Marcelo Bielsa must find someone to step up in the former Spain international’s absence.
On the chalkboard
Hernandez has been a key figure for Leeds so far this season. According to Transfermarkt’s statistics, the Spaniard has racked up seven goals and ten assists in 21 Championship outings.

Saturday’s visit of Norwich to Elland Road is a huge one in the context of both clubs’ seasons. Leeds are currently top of the Championship table, but Norwich are only three points behind.
If Bielsa’s side are missing their key creative outlet in Hernandez for the match, then the Argentine coach should give Tyler Roberts the chance to rise to the challenge of replacing the attacking midfielder in the starting XI.
A chance to truly show his quality
The 20-year-old has primarily been used as a striker this season, but he has struggled to consistently get amongst the goals. His return of three goals from eleven league appearances, seven of which have been starts, as per Transfermarkt’s stats, is far from prolific.
However, when he has been called on to play a deeper and more withdrawn role, or has been stationed out wide, the 4-cap Wales international has proven himself adept at linking up effectively with his fellow attackers.
If given the chance to take up Hernandez’s playmaking role, Roberts could truly show his quality and produce the kind of service that ought to allow the likes of Kemar Roofe to shine.
