da bet7: Sheffield Wednesday and Steve Bruce might have acrimoniously parted ways on the eve of pre-season as he made the switch to the poisoned chalice that is Newcastle United, but the Owls’ fanbase and current manager Garry Monk have plenty to thank him for.
After all, the squad they are currently witnessing out on the hallowed Hillsborough turf has primarily been put together by the 58-year-old before his sudden departure.
Julian Borner
The first of Bruce’s boys is Julian Borner, who they managed to pick up on a free transfer over the summer.
Not many would have ever heard of the 28-year-old before as he’s played the bulk of his career in Germany’s second tier, but he’s quickly become one of their most integral cogs in their defence.
In August, he clinched the club’s Player of the Month award for his role in assisting the Owls to three clean sheets – that’s his first-ever month of even playing English football.
The German currently rates out in the top three at the club for average rating per WhoScored at 7.08, and his recent performances have seen him hailed as ‘the biggest asset Wednesday have had in 20 years.’

Kadeem Harris
Next up is Kadeem Harris, who Monk will undoubtedly be glad is at the club as he assisted the first goal of his reign against Huddersfield Town last month.
On top of that, he’s provided two goals from left-wing and is only narrowly outside the top three for average rating.
The 26-year-old is such a vital part of Wednesday’s current system whether that be through a 4-4-2 or one that utilises a number ten, they both have wingers by which the majority of their attacks funnel through.
Harris averages a squad-high 2.2 dribbles per game and isn’t far behind on crosses either at 1.1 per match.
Even though Bruce isn’t in charge anymore, he could well have played a masterstroke in signing these two players, especially if they do manage to reach the playoffs as both Borner and Harris would have undoubtedly played their part.
So far they have been influential and Monk should count his lucky stars they’re within his ranks.
