da doce: As reported by Portuguese outlet Noticias ao Minuto, Manchester United have agreed in principle the signing of Benfica defender Nelson Semedo.
What’s the story?
da betway: United may not have added any reinforcements in the January transfer window but they’ve certainly been busy and could have wrapped up a summer deal already.
Noticias ao Minuto report a deal has been agreed with Benfica for their star right-back Nelson Semedo and that he will make the switch to Old Trafford.
The outlet says the player will cost United £35m, Mourinho’s first big spend since securing the services of Paul Pogba last August.
Benfica had been unwilling to let him leave in January, as they prepare to launch an assault on the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League. United’s persistence has paid off though and if the report is correct, he’s set to join them for pre-season.
The right man
Already a Portugal international, Semedo has been a permanent fixture for Benfica on the right side of their defence this season.
Helping Benfica to a massive 13 clean sheets in their campaign so far, it’s clear he knows how to be part of a strong defensive unit, something Man United will need if they’re to challenge for the title next season. He’s an attacking threat too, scoring two goals and contributing four assists from the right flank.
It’s clear then that he’s an exciting signing United fans can look forward to, should the reported deal become confirmed by the club.
At just 23 years old, it’s an investment that could pay off for many years to come and he already has the playing experience required to immediately challenge for a first team spot.
