da pinup bet: We’re now a good two-thirds into the January transfer window and it’s so far been rather underwhelming to say the least, especially when compared to all the multi-million deals rumoured in the tabloid transfer columns over the last few months.
da bet nacional: But the winter window has never been the ideal time to buy new recruits; those of proven Premier League quality are often accompanied by inflated price tags and a premium is usually added on top as compensation for losing a key player halfway through the season.
If you’re looking to cash in, however, then the January window can be a gold mine. You hold all the cards during negotiations and the other party usually need to buy far more than you need to sell.
So with that in mind and still well over a week of the window left to do some business, here are FIVE stars Liverpool might be tempted into selling if the right offer comes along…
CHRISTIAN BENTEKE
It’s not uncommon for recent signings to suddenly find themselves out of favour following an abrupt change in management and that appears to be the case with Christian Benteke.
Jurgen Klopp insists the Belgium international still has a future with Liverpool but his persistent benching of the 25-year-old – despite injuries to Daniel Sturridge, Danny Ings and Divock Origi -strongly suggests otherwise. Three of Benteke’s last seven Premier League outings have been as a substitute.
The 6 foot 3 target man seemingly lacks the mobility required for Klopp’s high-pressing philosophy so if a club were to make an offer that would recover the vast majority of the Reds’ original £32miliion summer investment, they might just be tempted to sell.
JEROME SINCLAIR
Jerome Sinclair is the youngest debutant in Liverpool’s history and one of the Anfield outfit’s most highly-rated youngsters.
But talks to extend the 19-year-old’s contract beyond the end of the season have stalled and rather tellingly, he’s recently switched agents to Aidy Ward – the controversial representative who facilitated Raheem Sterling’s summer move to Manchester City.
Should the striker leave on a free transfer in the summer, Liverpool will be entitled to a compensation package. But they could secure a better fee this month, rather than letting it be decided via tribunal, and recent reports claim Watford are preparing a bid.
JOE ALLEN
Liverpool have reportedly just rejected an offer for Joe Allen from former employers Swansea City but something tells me this transfer saga isn’t over just yet.
After all, the Wales international finds himself some way down the midfield pecking order at Anfield, behind the likes of James Milner, Jordan Henderson, Emre Can and Lucas Leiva, and has never really lived up to expectations since moving to Merseyside in summer 2012.
He’s made just one Premier League start so far this season and perhaps most importantly of all, is now into the final 18 months of his contract. At this point, extended terms seem incredibly unlikely.
So with Swansea looking to spend their way out of relegation trouble, they may well produce a bid Liverpool can’t afford to turn down before the close of the winter window.
TIAGO ILORI
Tiago Ilori returned to Anfield only a matter of weeks ago after being recalled from an incredibly unsuccessful loan spell with Aston Villa, failing to register a single appearance in any competition for the relegation-bound Midlands outfit.
Yet the fact Jurgen Klopp signed fellow centre-back Steven Caulker on loan just days after the Portuguese prospect’s first ever appearance for Liverpool – a 2-2 draw with Exeter in the FA Cup – strongly suggests he’s failed to convince the German gaffer in training.
Now 22 years of age and miles away from becoming the top-class Premier League defender once heralded, Liverpool might decide to cut the 6 foot 3 defender loose if the right offer comes along this month.
DANIEL STURRIDGE
Having clocked up just 106 minutes of playing time since Jurgen Klopp took the Anfield helm in October, recent reports have suggested Liverpool might be running out of patience with Daniel Sturridge.
The England striker’s talent remains indisputable, boasting 44 goals in 72 appearances for the Reds and 37 strikes in the Premier League, but he’s now managed just 17 league outings in eighteen months and Klopp’s recent comments have suggested he thinks the 26-year-old needs to man up a bit.
Of course, you can’t imagine Liverpool selling Sturridge and Benteke in the same transfer window – and whether they can actually find a buyer for the ever-crocked Three Lions man remains another issue. But West Ham have been linked with a shock £18million bid and if they or another club were to improve upon that sum slightly, Liverpool might decide to cash in.
