Tottenham Hotspur have been boosted by the news that club are currently planning to offer midfielder Christian Eriksen a new contract to remain in North London with his current deal expiring at the end of the season.
Eriksen has been linked with a move to Real Madrid after not being given an extension yet, while the likes of Dele Alli signed a new deal not too long ago.
But according to a report in the Daily Star, the Champions League team are planning to negotiate fresh and new terms with the Dane.
Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino emphasised the importance of Eriksen’s experience in the squad and that they are working really hard to commit his future for the long-term.
The 26-year-old has been one of the most important figures in the club in their rise to one of the top teams in the Premier League that has also made them a regular in the Champions League in recent seasons.
The manager also believes the relationship between Eriksen and the club is of a high standard and that he knows what the best decision for himself is.
Spurs host London rivals Chelsea at Wembley on Saturday in what could be an excellent opportunity for Pochettino’s charges to hand the Blues their first defeat of the season and move above them in the Premier League standings.
Tottenham have had a good run of form recently and have also been boosted by the return of many injured players including Eriksen and Alli, while young Harry Winks has made massive strides in the team as one of the standout players of the season.
Whether Eriksen will start the match remains unclear after featuring from the bench in their previous match against Crystal Palace but given the excellent goal he scored at Stamford Bridge last season, Pochettino might just throw him back into the team due to the importance of the clash.
If the Eriksen news is true, Pochettino must channel such a boost into his team in order to beat bitter rivals Chelsea.
