da doce: Liverpool are interested in signing Barnet goalkeeper Kai McKenzie-Lyle after giving him a trial with the Under-23s, according to The Mirror.
What’s the word?
da dobrowin: The goalkeeping issue has been clear for all to see at Anfield for some time, but now things are finally getting resolved.
Jurgen Klopp has a world-class goalkeeper in Alisson, who recently joined from Roma in a record deal.
The Brazilian’s arrival has pushed Loris Karius and Simon Mignolet down the pecking order, and there are murmurs that both shot-stoppers will leave.
According to The Mirror, non-league keeper McKenzie-Lyle is being lined up by Klopp after the 20-year-old played in a pre-season friendly with the Under-23s last week.
The 6ft 7in player currently plies his trade for Barnet, where he has been since 2011 when he joined the club’s academy.
Will the youngster push for a first-team spot?
It is unclear what Klopp’s plans for him would be, but there is a danger of Liverpool leaving themselves in a vulnerable position.
Danny Ward has already left the club, so if Karius and Mignolet also depart, it leaves the Reds with limited options in goal.
Alisson’s first-team role will not be challenged, but if the Brazilian suffers an injury, then Liverpool need an established keeper to take over.
While McKenzie-Lyle has the potential to be a star between the sticks, the youngster is not ready to take that next step.
Having said that, the Merseyside outfit should still pursue a deal as the keeper would benefit from developing under Klopp’s guidance.
